Michael Merlingen is an Associate Professor in International Relations and European Studies at Central European University, Budapest. His research interests lie in EU foreign policy, especially the EU’s Common Security and Defence policy, conflict management, peacebuilding, governance and critical theory. He has published two books and a number of scholarly articles on CSDP missions and peacebuilding in Bosnia and the Western Balkans more generally. He has done extensive field research on Bosnia. Another aspect of his published work has focused on critical perspectives on international governance. His research-based textbook ‘European Security and Defence Policy: What It Is, How It Works, Why It Matters”, is scheduled to be published by Lynne Rienner in 2010.
